The corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel comes from the chromium oxide protective layer formed on the metal surface. When the material temperature is heated to 450-900 ℃, the structure will change, chromium carbide will be formed along the crystal edge, but chromium oxide protective layer cannot be formed, so the corrosion resistance will be reduced, which is also known as "intergranular corrosion". Thus, 304L and 316L reduce intergranular corrosion due to their low carbon content. In particular, higher intergranular corrosion sensitivity does not mean that non-low carbon content is more prone to corrosion, and this sensitivity is also higher in high chlorine environment.
